Therapeutic Massage versus Relaxation Massage

Massage has been used as a therapeutic measure for centuries, and across all cultures around the world. Different types of massage are designed to target specific areas, dysfunctions and promote natural healing. Massage has been proven to reduce the stress hormone Cortisol while boosting the feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine. In short, ALL massage is therapeutic and relaxing!

Therapeutic is defined as serving the body to heal or cure; serving to preserve health. Relaxation is activities that relieve muscle tension, induce a quiet body response and rebuild energy resources. Massage is touch with intention or purpose and also defined as the process of pressing, stroking, kneading, and rubbing the body to "relax" muscles, improve circulation, relieve pain, and stimulate the skin and hormone secretions and improve proprioception. Massage benefits are greater than skin deep because muscles, tendons, blood/lymphatic circulation and ligaments are all affected by massage.

ALL MASSAGE IS THERAPEUTIC AND RELAXING!

Yes, I am repeating myself however for very good reason. There is a lack of education in our industry. In fact, most marketing materials and social media descriptions will use the terms "relaxation" and "therapeutic" interchangeably. There truly is no difference.

Massage is exactly like exercise, except you don't have to move a muscle – relax, we are doing all the work.

Know this: When an individual lays upon a massage table to receive a massage...by definition IT IS BOTH RELAXING AND THERAPEUTIC!!! Now what that individual's expectations are could be a whole other matter, however they will certainly feel relaxed, and their body will have received therapeutic benefits.

It won't matter if they wanted to relax and just relieve tension, get a good night's sleep or if they wanted to relieve low back pain, get rid of a headache, or as part of their ongoing health regime to fight against sciatica, fibromyalgia, or migraines.

With an experienced and knowledgeable therapist, the customer is going to experience the best of both: Relaxation and Therapeutic.
